The Black Sea town of Amasya is well known for its fine examples of traditional architecture. Ezgi Pension offers travellers a chance to experience life in one of these historical treasures. In a row of traditional houses lined along the river, the pension is dominated by a cliff that rises majestically, and almost threateningly, just behind it.

Inside, as you would expect, the atmosphere offers plenty of “couleur locale”: heavy beams, dark wood furniture, kilims. The rooms are simple but make up in rustic charm what they lack in luxury. The bathroom is hidden in a cupboard. The restaurant serves some delicious and unusual regional dishes. Unexpectedly, the guesthouse has a lovely enclosed garden, with mature trees creating a wonderful sense of seclusion.
