Set 3 km inland from the port, Old Datça is a delightful village of honey-coloured stone houses in gardens of pomegranate and fig. No blemish disturbs the eye along the main street, which winds between garden walls overflowing with bougainvillea and jasmine. A number of distinguished outsiders, including some Germans, have bought and restored old houses to happy effect.

Dede Pansion, in the midst of Old Datça, is one of the most successful examples of the rustic style we have came across in Turkey: it manages to be neat and in good taste without succumbing to the lure of designer-chic. The attractive stone-built units lie in a large and sunny garden full of fruit trees, hidden nooks, stairways and back doors. The swimming pool is beautiful, even luxurious. A 1952 Prestcold refrigerator stands at the poolside bar as elegant as a pink swan.
Rooms are furnished with homey charm, and provided with their own kitchen. They are named after artists (Dali, Chagall, Chaplin...) reflecting the İpeks‘ long involvement with art and theatre circles in their adopted home at Berlin.
