Located in the town Urgup, just minutes from a myriad of Cappadocia’s' finest activities, museums, shopping, galleries, restaurants, parks, cafes and the waterfront. Urgup Evi Cave Hotel - delightfully different, definitely the place to stay when you are next in Cappadocia!.

Urgup Evi Cave Hotel has had an interesting life. It was used by locals as a house. Our hotel is a combination of two old houses. Renovated and redecorated by Faruk Maden, from whom it takes its name, our cave house has been extensively restored to its former glory. Many of the items of decor and furniture come from Faruk's personal experience of restoring the old houses in Urgup over the years with just such a project always in mind. He restored the houses Esbelli Evi and Elkep Evi which in use as hotel at the moment in the town Urgup. Now owned and personally managed by his family, Urgup Evi Cave Hotel continues to impress and delight visitors to Cappadocia with value for money accommodation that is memorable, something different and definitely special.

The name of our hotel " URGUP EVI " comes from the old town Urgup which means " House of Urgup ". The village of Urgup is located in a deep basin dominated by a "fortress" of natural rock formations. On the sides of this "fortress" hundreds of rock-cut houses blend harmoniously with those made of stone.

In and around Urgup are excellent examples of typical Cappadocian houses, most of which have been carved out of the soft volcanic rock or built with local stones. Due to the abundance of stone and the lack of wood in this region, the local inhabitants found ingenious ways of creating comfortable dwellings for themselves in the volcanic rocks. Along the mountain slopes or in the cones, people carved out living quarters, cellars, stables, and storage areas, some of which are still used today. Urgup Evi Cave Hotel is one of the examples of these old cave houses in Urgup.

Many of these rock-cut and masonry-built dwellings had two levels-upper rooms for use in the summer and lower ones for use in the winter. In general, however, the people preferred to spend their time in their courtyards ("hayat," meaning "life"), which were surrounded by very high walls.
