You couldn’t get any closer than this to the heart of Bodrum. The famed Main Alley is right on your doorstep, thronged hip-to-tanned-hip till 5 in the morning. The sea is in the back, the waves spraying first-floor windows on windy days (we saw someone casting a fish line from the breakfast table). The stupendous Castle of the Crusaders, lit at night, almost bursts into your bedroom.

Baç Pension shines amongst the half-dozen rather tired hotels in this area with its excellently designed - almost opulent - interior. The staff is friendly to a fault. Rooms are spacious, and enjoy enormous windows over the sea. And if you worry about street noise - why in the world would you be in Bodrum if you plan to go to sleep before sunrise?
